LAURENS, SC....Adorable Baxter is an 8+ year old English Bulldog that was picked up as a stray and taken to the Shelter in Laurens County.  Because of his age and the fact he had so many medical issues, the chance of him getting out was very slim.  The volunteers fell in love with him and begged us to please give him a chance at a better life.  Based on the condition he was in when he arrived, we agreed to help this sweet boy.  As you can see from the pictures, he can barely see out of one of his eyes and only has maybe 30% vision in the other eye.  We have been treating his eyes but he is scheduled to see an eye specialist this week to see how much of his vision we can restore.  His eye gets better and then it flares up all over again and is as bad as it was before.   We did surgery to remove the perianal tumors Baxter had and sent them off to the lab.  Every tumor came back cancerous.  Unfortunately, the cancer had spread in the area where the tumors were removed.  The surgeons got as good a margin as they could but he still has to go through chemotherapy to rid his body of the  cancer that was around the area to be safe.  We have had him thoroughly checked out by a cancer specialist and she thinks this is all he will need to live a long healthy life.  Baxter came in with lots of skin issues but we have been able to clear those up without any new problems.  The other issue we are having is that our sweet boy is 90% deaf.  We don’t believe that is going to change.  Baxter is the most incredible English Bulldog.  He loves people and all animals.  He even likes cats.   We adore this sweet Soul and hate that he has had such a hard time in life.  He is so deserving of all the love and affection he can get.  He is up for adoption.  We will continue to pay for his Chemotherapy after he is adopted until he is completely done with his treatment.   He is always going to have limited sight and limited hearing but there is no limit to the love he has to give.

Sweet Baxter has had all of his Perianal Tumors removed and is off to the Eye Specialist to see what we can do to keep his eyes as clear as they are in this picture.  We get them cleared up and think all is well and then one morning they are completely clouded over like he has an infection.  We will know more this afternoon after his appointment.  He had another Chemotherapy treatment this past week and all went well with that.  The bad news is that in the process of his thorough evaluation before the treatment we discovered another rather large tumor the size of a half dollar in a totally different area that has come up over the last month.  He is scheduled to have that removed on Tuesday.  At that time, we will be doing scans of his lungs and abdomen to see exactly what we are dealing with and if he has others that have come up.  Once the tumor is removed, it will be biopsied to determine our next course of action.  Baxter remains as sweet and loving as ever through all of this.  We adore this big boy and only want the very best for him.  We did not get all that we needed for his surgeries the first time and have now had to raise his Chip-In.  Please, donate toward his care.  We need all we can  raise to see him through this.

Baxter saw the eye specialist and his main problem is dry eye.  We have changed his drops and have added a new drop that should increase his sight from 20% to hopefully 50%.  We have removed his tumor and are waiting for the biopsy report to come back.  Baxter just takes everything in stride and never complains.  He is a Sweetheart.

Sweet Baxter had surgery to remove the tumor we found.  The biopsy came back that it is a low grade MCT (Mast Cell Tumor).  We had good clean margins and we did not see any signs that it had spread. We feel good that we got all of it.  He has two more Chemotherapy treatments and then he can be placed in his new wonderful home.  Baxter's problem with his eyes has been chronic Dry Eye.  We have changed his medication in hopes he can regain some of his vision back.  So far his eyes are looking good.  We will not know about his vision for atleast 6 months.  He will already be in his new home but we will be in touch with the new Family all the time to follow his progress as we do with all of our dogs.  Just because an animal has left us doesn't mean they are not still a part of our Family.  It just means our Family got bigger, not smaller.  Baxter has one of the greatest personalities.  His charm wins you over immediately.  He is one of the sweetest English Bulldogs I have ever seen.  We will miss him a lot and are so happy for his new Family.
