BALTIMORE, MD.....We were sent information and pictures of a dog that brought back memories of dear Freckles.   The wounds were very similar, and the area was Baltimore which is where Freckles came from.  We contacted BARCS in Baltimore to see if they needed help with this sweet pup and they did.   Freckles taught us a lot about wound care and how quickly things can change and an Animal's World could turn upside down in the blink of an eye.

Brixx was turned in by an Owner that said he was hit by a car.  His wounds are raw and had begun to fester.  The accident did not happen the day he was brought in.  They could not afford to get him taken care of so he was signed over to BARCS.  He was immediately taken to the ER where they began treatment and BARCS searched for a Rescue that could handle a case this bad.   You don't get any worse than Freckles so we were the only ones that would stand by an animal and never give up no matter what.

We had Brixx picked up by a wonderful Volunteer of ours once he was stable and could travel.  He was taken to our ER Team in Charlotte, NC where I knew they could handle a case such as this.   Brixx was immediately put in ICU and given fluids and his extensive would care began.   We don't know exactly what happened to this sweet pup, but he looks more like he was dragged rather that hit by a car.  The only indication we have that he was hit is that he has lung contusions that were indicated when x-rays were taken.

His wounds are massive which means he will probably have to have flaps made to cover some of the areas that are not granulating in.   Brixx has wounds that show sheared skin from his ear to this tail.   That skin will have to granulate in from the inside out.   Each day, dead skin is debrided, so fresh skin can come to the surface and grow.  Some areas are going to take a long time to get to the healthy skin below.  That is part of the process.   Tie-back stitches have been surgically put in so bandages can regularly be changed and tied down.   Tie-backs keep the bandages in place over the wound it is covering.   Wounds can be packed and replaced all throughout the day which is what a dog like Brixx needs for him to heal properly.   Brixx will have to remain in Critical Care until we see progress with his wounds.

Brixx has the best Wound Care Team around that is staying on top of his Care.   His wounds are cleaned and bandaged all throughout the day.  Cultures have been sent off to get him on the proper antibiotics.  So far he is growing several different bacteria.  None of the ones that have returned have come back MRSA.

We are not sure what actually happened to this sweet pup.  What we do know is that he is very anxious and scared.   We have to keep him slightly sedated because his wounds are very painful.   He loves people but gets overly anxious when other male dogs are in the area.  Hopefully, his neuter will take care of some of the anxiety he is feeling.

Brixx has a long road ahead of him.  Once he heals from his physical wounds, we then have to train him to be placed in a loving home.  His bills are going to be huge.  Please, DONATE, whatever you can and if you can't send to your animal loving friends so they can help.  We need for everyone to do something, even if it is Prayers for the long road of recovery Brixx has so he survives this horrible ordeal.

Thanks for making his Journey to Heal and find Love, Possible.
