Buck's wounds on his legs finally healed well enough for us to operate on him. His type of surgery is difficult and very complicated which is why we had to have the best possible surgeons working on him. It was all hands on deck with our dear boy. The surgeons opted to do one leg at a time in order to keep Buck as comfortable as possible and to keep him walking. Bucks surgery was several hours long to re-break and align the bones in his front left leg and then put the plates in. He had a good night last night and is up and walking around this morning. His leg is cast so he can use it without damaging the surgery that was done. It is up to the surgeon and Buck's progress as to when he will be ready for the other leg to be done. We are hoping he will be ready in about 4 weeks.
Our dear boy is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. He has had a terrible Life and has not once let it get him down. His legs are the way they are because he was confined to a kennel for a puppy. His body adapted to the confinement by his legs bowing out. He loves having his freedom and will sit for long periods of time looking around and taking in his new life.
We have a wonderful Family for Buck that lives in the area. He will be allowed to stay with them when he is not in the hospital having surgery and rehab. His surgical procedures and rehab will be on-going for the next 4 - 6 months until he is able to walk comfortably.
Thanks for caring about Buck and his Journey to survive and thrive.
