Our sweet little Daisy Mae has had what we hope are her final major surgeries to survive the gunshot wounds that destroyed part of her jaw and chest area. The picture is rather graphic but we wanted everyone to see the incredible surgery that was done to put her back together. She has had six major surgeries to get her all closed up. The large chest area is finally closed up and is no longer draining. Her broken jaw was repaired by putting a plate in that will restore the area that was broken and the part that was destroyed from the bullet. The area inside the mouth that destroyed the mandible and some teeth has also been closed. The fistula in the roof of the mouth that went into her sinus / nasal cavity was a gradual closure that took several surgeries. I am so happy to say the area is finally closed and has not re-opened. We had a feeding tube in for her to use while the areas were healing but Daisy Mae had ideas of her own and removed it. We have decided to give her meatballs and then flush her mouth out with water after eating to see if that works for her before we put a feeding tube back in. Daisy Mae was having lots of issues regurgitating her food. She has now gone three days without any issues and we are hopeful that has resolved itself. We have started her on Laser Treatment to reduce the swelling which was significant after surgery. That seems to be helping her a lot and she loves it. Daisy Mae is still in the hospital but is out of Critical Care. We still need Donations for all of her new surgeries and medical care. Thanks for caring about her and sharing her story of survival.
