GREENVILLE, SC......DALLY is a 6 month old Dalmatian Mix that was picked up as a stray by Animal Control after having been shot. She was taken to the Greenville shelter where she had to be rescued immediately or she was going to be euthanized right away because of her condition. With all the pain this incredible pup was in she is still the most sweet and loving little dog. We stepped up and had her taken immediately to one of our surgeons. We didn’t know what we were going to find when we got her because her abdomen was so distended. We knew her leg was bad but didn’t know what organs had been damaged from the gunshot wound. When she arrived, we immediately took life-saving measures to get her stable. It took four days to get her stable enough to do surgery on her. She wasn’t great but she was stable enough to do surgery. We knew we had to get inside and see what was causing all of the swelling. She came down with terrible diarrhea, the minute we started her surgery. This was the first time she had been sick like this. We started doing tests immediately to see what else was going on and we were shocked to see that not only did we have a young pup with a gunshot wound that needed major surgery but she had full blown PARVO. You don’t see many strays her age that have PARVO unless they had spent time in a shelter that had it. That was not the case with DALLY. This little dog has been fighting for her life for almost a week now. We had to remove the leg because the bone was shattered into a million pieces. We got our first bit of good news when we discovered the bullet did not perforate her abdomen or any major organs. Our good news was very short lived when the surgeon removed what appears to be either a 38 or 45 caliber bullet along with the shell. This adorable pup was shot at close range with the gun held against her body. Someone looked her in the eye and did this to her while she was in a trusting position. We do not have a clue who did this and are hoping that someone will see this picture and recognize this sweet dog. We have the bullet and the shell that were removed. Dally is very sick and is getting round the clock care to get her over the PARVO and the gunshot.
Adorable DALLY is finally on the upswing. We believe the worst is over for this adorable girl. To get shot and have PARVO at the same time is almost impossible to survive but she has and is doing wonderful. She will remain at the hospital until she has fully recovered which will be for another two weeks. We need to make sure she is completely over the Parvo and will not be a able to give it to any other young pups before she can leave. She has been in quarantine since she arrived. Her gunshot wound is healing nicely and the swelling is starting to come down. Because she has been so sick she has not been able to fully adapt to being a tripod. You have to have strength to get used to carrying all of your weight on three legs and that is something she is just now beginning to regain. We are still having to help her with the process but that should all change this week. We still do not have any leads as to the person that did this to her. We were hopeful someone would recognize her and give us a call but that has not happened. DALLY will make an incredible loving member of a family. She is a total Sweetheart. If you are interested in adopting her, please, fill out our Adoption Application from our website.
Our sweet little girl is finally starting to walk on all three legs. It took her longer than most but is now very comfortable being a tripod. She is adorable with her precious spots all over. We love this gentle soul. She will make a wonderful member of the family and loves other dogs.
