Sweet DANA did great from her last surgery and has put enough weight on that the surgeons decided she was healthy enough for her to have her final surgeries to remove her mammary gland tumors.  She still has a lot more weight to gain but that will be months before she is back to a normal Dane size.  We take it slow and easy with these big dogs to make sure we do not have any complications from giving them too much food.  During surgery, she was spayed and we also did Gastropexy Surgery which tacks the stomach to the side of the body wall to prevent the stomach from ever twisting.  This will not prevent Bloat but will prevent the stomach from flipping which is much harder to treat.  It is a preventative measure we chose to do since we were already in the area.  Better safe than sorry when it comes to these big, big dogs.  Dana has been in the hospital for four days and should be getting out today, if her nausea and gastro problems subside.   Dana is the sweetest dog.  It appears she has ben starved from food and affection.  She likes to always be close by and acts like she is a little dog that wants to be in your lap all the time.  She doesn't have anxiety attacks if you are not there.  She just wants to be with you all the time. Dana is a very loving sweet Dane that has stolen all of our hearts.  The pathology came back on her leg tumor.  It was a low grade mast cell tumor.  The mammary gland tumor came back normal without any cancer cells.   Dana is going to make the best Family dog.  She is gentle and kind and is much younger than her years.
