CHARLOTTE, NC.....We were contacted by Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Matthews, NC about a beautiful one-year-old Blue Pitbull that was brought into the ER. He had not been eating and had been throwing up for a week. The Owners finally brought him to the ER when he could barely hold his head up and was very lethargic. An x-ray was done and it was discovered Diezel had a bowel obstruction and had become Septic from a perforation in his intestine. It was now or never for this sweet dog. The Owners did not have any funds and the Surgical Team loved Diezel and wanted to save him. I love CVS (Carolina Veterinary Specialists) and they knew I would not let this sweet puppy die without giving him a chance. One of the Vet Techs said she would foster, and the Surgeon reminded all of us this was a long shot. Diezel was already in shock and probably would not make it. I told them to go ahead and do their best.
It was hours on top of hours before we even heard if he had survived the procedure. Later that evening, I finally heard from the Surgeon, and she was exhausted. She could not believe Diezel had made it to the Hospital. She removed toy, after toy after toy from his intestine and had to remove 32 inches of his duodenum that was necrotic (DEAD). His intestine had perforated, and the contents had spilled into his body cavity. Diezel was in shock and septic. When I finally got a picture of this sweet pup, I thought he had died. Diezel came through surgery and survived this horrible ordeal after being in ICU for one week.
He is one lucky dog. I was originally going to give him back to his Owners until I saw the contents that were removed from his stomach. He had been sick for quite some time, and they waited too long while he suffered. It is one thing to find out your dog ate something, and you rush him to the vet to save him. It is something totally different when you sit back and watch your dog suffer. Even if you don't have the FUNDS, get the dog to the Vet ASAP. It is far better to put an animal down than to put them through pain and suffering. Bowel obstructions are horrible for animals. It is a slow, agonizing DEATH. The World is full of far more loving caring people that will offer assistance if you do the right thing than people that sit back and do nothing
I just want to say that I love the Vets, Surgeons, and Vet Techs that we work with. They are the best of the best in the field of Veterinary Medicine. When these boys and girls mean business, you better get out of their way because they will do anything to save an animal. If you think I am tough to work with, just get in their way. They make me look like a passive mouse which we all know if far from the truth.
Passionate people get things done. We love big, and when we lose one, we grieve and mourn just like everyone else. We feel like our hearts will never heal from the loss. The pain we feel is always bigger than we think our body can endure. Then another innocent Soul cries out for help, and we can't turn our hearts or eyes away. Life is filled with pain and suffering and love and happiness. The greater the pain, the bigger the heart. Noah's Arks Rescue is here because animals need us. I wish there weren't a need, but the horrifying truth is they need us now more than ever. When we reach out for help, please don't turn your back. We are it for the ones we save. For everyone you hear about, there are lots more we never mention. If you can't help one, say a prayer and forward to your friends. We are each part of a much bigger picture. It takes a Village of like-minded people to save an animal. I count my blessings every day for the Noah's Arks Rescue Community. Each of you plays a very important part in saving the animals we take in. Without you, we would not exist. Thanks for being their Guardian Angel and OURS. Diezel has the rest of his Life ahead of him because of you. Never forget that. We are just the Messenger.
