I wish I had good news about our dear boy, Dozer but, unfortunately, the results from his MRI are not good. Dr. Bergman found a large tumor in Dozer's spinal cord at C6 & C7. He also found another tumor that is much larger near the scapula of the leg that had been removed. We are all devastated by the news but knew in our hearts that something wasn't right with our sweet boy. We do know that surgery is not possible given where the tumor is. Dozer would be paralyzed from the procedure. What we are doing now is talking to our Radiologist, Dr. Philip Treuil. We want to see if a few rounds of palliative radiation would knock back the tumor enough to give him a better quality of Life for the time he has left. There is no cure for what Dozer has, and the radiation would only be palliative. Dr. Treuil's main focus is always Quality of Life when he treats any animal.
From this point forward, Dozer will be in our Hospice Program and will remain with us. We had a great new home for him, but that will not happen, and his home will be with us. Given Dozer's size and the fact he is missing a forelimb makes his case a lot more complicated. There are still a lot of details that have to be sorted out. One thing we are sure of is that he will have the same unconditional Love he has always received from us. The only difference is that we will shift gears as far as his rehab is concerned. Doing the MRI gave us the information we needed to give Dozer the care he needs to enjoy what time he has left. MRI's are very expensive tests but are invaluable for neurological cases. We are not going to celebrate the Life Dozer has lived and the Life he has left. He is an incredible dog that has endured immeasurable hardships. We will not abandon him now when he needs us most. We will do everything possible to ease his suffering. When he no longer has a good Quality of Life, we will assist him crossing over the Rainbow Bridge.
Please, make a Donation in Honor of our dear boy so we can pay off his final medical bills and any palliative radiation that will be required to keep him comfortable. We are hopeful, he will have several more great months being showered with unconditional love and care and honoring the amazing dog he is and the Life he has lived. Thanks for making his Journey possible. We greatly appreciate your support.
