DECATUR, GA......Sweet EMRICK is an 18 month old American Bulldog that was picked up as a stray by Animal Control. He is so emaciated that he can barely stand up and only for a brief period. We could not sit back and turn our backs on this wonderful abused dog. It takes quite a while for an animal to get this thin. It doesn’t happen over night and the damage that it does to the animals internal organs are the main reason why the animals die even after getting help. We picked up EMRICK a week ago to get him evaluated and started on immediate medical care. We decided not to post him then because we were not sure if he would make it. He has been getting round the clock care and has shown very slow progress. We are very slowly building his system back so it does not go into shock. His blood work is all over the place and we are doing lots of tests to see if there could be any underlying medical condition he has that could be causing him to be so thin. Right now it appears he has been terribly neglected and abused by someone. He is not heartworm positive. At some point in his life, he had to have been given heartworm medication and had a home where he was given regular medical care. If he was my dog and he got away, I would never stop looking for him. The best we can come up with is that someone took him in and forgot about him. Whatever happened to him we will never know. We are just so glad he got free and was picked up so he could finally get a chance to live a normal life surrounded by love and affection. He will be with us for a long time while he is recovering. Once he has regained his strength and health, we will be able to evaluate his true personality and will know the best type of home he should be placed in.
Emrick has a long way to go but is just as sweet as can be. He is so glad to be safe and in the arms of people that adore him. He is getting lots of small meals and is enjoying each one like it is his last one. His boodwork seems to be a stabilizing which is wonderful news. He weight is slowly increasing. As of today he has gained 15 lbs. He weighed 44.5 lbs when we got him and he weights 59.2 lbs. today and still looks emaciated. It is amazing he survived at all with the weight loss and the cold temperatures he had to survive.
It is hard to believe the dog above is the same one as below.
This incredible boy has been placed in a wonderful new home with a buddy to play with. Look at how much he has filled out. He is so happy where he is.
