GREENVILLE, SC.....Sweet Farmer is a 4 month old Boxer / Mix that was picked up as a stray on Farm Road. He was brought to AC in Greenville, SC with both sides of his lower jaw broken. The breaks are very close to his mouth joints which make the breaks that much more complicated. Because of the pain he was in, he had to leave the shelter ASAP. We got lots of pleas to help but we had our hands full with all of the abuse cases we have and the new ones coming in. We were sure someone would step up for him. We were shocked when Greenville contacted us and said he was going to have to be PTS because he could not stay there in that condition and suffer. We decided we couldn’t turn our backs on this little guy. He is small and we would just have to find a spot for him. Our little guy has had extensive jaw surgery to repair both sides of his bottom jaw. He has been nothing but a sweetheart though all of this. For a little dog in so much pain, he has not once done anything but whimper. We have a special bandage on his mouth to allow the jaw to heal and also allow him to eat. So far, it is working. We have had Farmer for almost a month while he has been going through this process. The reason why we waited so long to post is because we have had to do little procedures since his surgery to keep the jaw functional but stable so it would heal. Jaw surgery can be very tricky. Either it works or it doesn’t. There is not much room for error. Farmer has still got to wear his bandage sling because it is not stable enough to remove it. He is happy as can be and is so glad to be out of pain that nothing bothers this sweet boy. Sweet Farmer is going to make the best family dog. He loves everyone and will play all day long if you let him. We do not know how his jaw was broken. It does not appear to be from a dog fight since there are not any bite marks around his muzzle. We think since he is a puppy that someone either kicked him or stepped on him. It appears to be more like when a pup is kicked than anything else. One thing we do know for sure, he is a sweetheart and did not deserve to die because someone did not care about him. We care and adore our little man. Farmer is still in the hospital in Columbia where he has been since we got him. He has had to be closely monitored during the entire process. Thanks for helping us with adorable FARMER. Our sweet boy is growing like a weed. I was waiting before I sent this around to see if the bandage was going to be off but unfortunately, his jaw is still not set enough for the bandage to be removed permanently. He is doing wonderful and is the sweetest, most loving little Angel. He loves everyone and wants to run and play all day long. He could care less about having the bandage on. Farmer never complains and is always so happy. He can eat like a horse. His broken jaw has never stopped him from giving his all when it comes to food. He is definitely in a growing spurt because his legs seem to be 10 feet long. He is growing up, up, up. We are not sure what he is mixed with but whatever it is, has long thin legs. Farmer is going to make the best family dog for someone special. He loves everyone and plays great with other dogs. Thanks for caring and sharing his story.
Guess who has his bandages off, adorable Farmer does. Look how great and wonderful he looks. This sweet boy has really been through a lot and has never complained once. He is a joy to be around and loves everyone that stops to show him any affection. His jaw is working great and he now has a cute underbite that makes him even cuter, if that were possible. Farmer has been running and jumping for joy ever since we removed the bandages. Nothing is holding this sweet boy back. He is now ready for his new home.
