We have had lots and lots going on with all of the dogs. Betty and Fowler have been keeping all of us on our toes. Betty is doing well but still has to gain a lot more weight but is eating. I will report more on her tomorrow once her new bloodwork comes back. Today is all about the incredible surgery dear Fowler went through to remove all of his tumors. We finally got this wonderful Little Man stable enough for us to do his surgery. He was in surgery for close to four hours. All of his tumors were in very complicated areas because of the excessive growth. He had a lot more blood vessels that had to be taken care of because of the growth in areas where the tumors had grown. We removed the main tumor on his rear section along with small ones that were all over his body. We also had to remove some mammary gland tumors. All of the biopsies are back and unfortunately, our dear boy has mammary gland cancer. We are as shocked as you are since he is a boy and that is usually something females get and not males. During the surgery we also removed the lymph nodes in those areas. The one of his leg was a mast cell tumor that we are not as concerned about but the mammary gland ones are a problem. Since the surgery, we have discovered another tumor that has come up on another mammary gland near an enlarged lymph node. We are doing a biopsy on that one today. We also had to remove Fowler's spleen that was terribly enlarged and causing a lot of havoc in his body. During the spleen removal, a large mass was discovered in his intestine. The surgeons went in and removed a large mass of junk that was starting to cause him to have a bowel obstruction. Fowler was not a candidate for us to do multiple surgeries so we had to do all that we could while he was sedated. We had several Surgeons and Vet. Techs working on him at the same time to make sure he was being closely monitored for any complications. He breezed through the surgery like he was a two year old. We were all amazed and thrilled how well he did. Fowler was kept on heavy sedation for the next 5 days. His meds have slowly been taken away and he is up and around now. The Little Man has the most incredible spirit and will to live. He amazes us every day with how well he is doing. The large tumor on Fowler's rear section was causing him terrible pain every time he tried to lay down or sit. He can now comfortably sleep and sit without any problems. To say he is a happy boy is an understatement. Once we get the final biopsies back, his Oncologist will determine the best course of action given the type of cancer he has and his age. Keep Fowler in your prayers for a speedy recovery and that we got the bulk of the tumors in his body. Fowler has been in ICU for several weeks now and has had major complicated surgery and still has a long journey ahead. Please, donate toward his large medical bills.
