OXFORD, NC.....Adorable Gidget was seen wandering around an elementary school playground. Animal Control was contacted, and she was picked up. The first thing they noticed was that she was limping, and her rear leg was very swollen. Gidget is a one-year-old Terrier Mix that appeared to have been hit by a car. She is adorable and sweet to everyone she meets. Gidget was taken to the vet for an x-ray, and it was discovered she had a terrible break by her knee. We were contacted to see if we could help.. The Shelter was planning on removing her leg which would have been acceptable if there was not another option. I sent the x-rays to my Orthopedic Surgeon, and she agreed the leg could be plated and saved. I contacted the Shelter right before the leg was removed and said we would take her.
If you look at the x-rays, you can see what a terrible break Gidget has. It was not going to be an easy surgery, but it was certainly possible. Since Gidget was such a young dog, I thought she deserved her only chance for saving the leg. Gidget's surgery was long and complicated. The surgery went extremely well, but her recovery has been rather rough because her leg had become infected and swollen. She spiked a few the day after surgery and had to be put in ICU. After a week in and out of ICU, she is finally recovering from the procedure.
While Gidget was under sedation, a thorough examination was done. It was discovered that her teeth are in terrible shape for such a young pup. She has either been eating something very hard or has been in a cage for long periods of time and has been chewing the bars. We will never know what happened; we just know the issue has to be addressed.
Gidget is a fabulous little dog that is going to make someone very, very happy. Once she leaves the hospital, she will be fostered in the Raleigh, NC area which is where Gidget came from until she can be placed in a home.
Gidget's bills are quite extensive because of her surgery and being in ICU. Please, Donate whatever you can so we Do Not go into Debt after stepping up for her. Thanks for caring and making her Journey to Walk normally again, possible. We greatly appreciate your support.
