AHOSKIE, NC.....Sweet GORDIE is a 2-3 year old Brindle Pitbull that was picked up wandering down a road in Ahoskie, NC barely able to walk. An elderly Good-Samaritan took him to the vet and then took him home. She was desperate to find a place for him to go before calling Animal control. We were contacted about the same time we took in Muggs & Bobby McGee. Needless to say we had our hands full. Thin does not even begin to describe this wonderful dog. We were told he got along great with cats and other dogs but he wouldn't make it if he didn't get some major medical intervention. We rescued him and had him taken to our vet in Columbia, SC. We have had Gordie for 4 weeks now and he is slowly coming around. There were several times we didn't think he was going to make it. It was very apparent Gordie had been used as a Bait Dog based on all the sores and scars all over his face, neck and legs. He was loaded with parasites and was very anemic from the old wounds and all the parasites. His bladder and kidney function was terribly infected. He was a mess and needed a lot more than food. The picture of him in the bottom right corner is how he looks today. He is still thin but we have made a lot of progress in getting his health back. I hear all the time whenever we take in emaciated dogs that all they need is food and then they will be fine. That is only true in the best circumstances. Animals need be slowly introduced to food since their body has gone for so long without it. Food alone was not going to help our dear boy. He needed a lot of other support or he would not be here today. Gordie has been in the hospital for the last four weeks and is still in the hospital. He was in ICU for the first two weeks and then was transferred to the regular hospital. He is only now healthy enough for us to neuter him. It has been a Journey with this wonderful boy to get him well. We finally feel like we are getting on the other side of his abuse. Gordie is the sweetest boy that does everything he can to please you. It is so humbling to be around a dog that has been used to fight that all he wants to do is play and love on you. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body and will be a great companion for a very lucky person. He still has to put on about 10 more pounds but that will come over time. Gordie's bills are very high after being in the hospital for a month. We would greatly appreciate any donation you could spare so we can put back the funds we had to use to save him. He is a sweet happy boy that now has a chance at living a wonderful Life filled with lots of Love and Compassion.
