Our big boy Guinness has had his surgery and is doing wonderfully. He is not happy about being in the hospital but gets excited when he gets to get out of his Hospital Suite to explore. He was in surgery for several hours repairing the broken leg. A metal plate was inserted in two slits that were cut to anchor the bone to so it can fuse back together. During the procedure, it was discovered he had several broken canines in the front of his mouth. Those were removed during the procedure to keep from having to sedate him a second time. Once he came to, he immediately wanted to get up and walk around. He also let everyone know that he wanted treats, and he wanted them now. He was a little demanding, and we soon discovered our sweet boy has a little bit of food aggression. All treats from that point forward were either tossed through the air, or they were given in his run, without fingers involved.
Guinness is a very sweet boy that is going to do amazing once he recovers from the surgery. The plate will have to remain attached to the bone unless he develops an infection. It will then have to be removed once the leg has healed. He will be on restricted exercise for the next eight weeks but will have to have leash walks to keep the leg from atrophying.
Our sweet boy is one of the lucky ones. If his leg had been removed, he would be looking at a Lifetime of pain and suffering from hip issues. As it stands now, he has a Lifetime of fun and games in his future. Thanks for caring and making his Journey to Heal and find Love, possible.
