Sweet Hershey did amazing during surgery yesterday. It was a very long day for him but it was a huge success. All of the tumor was removed along with some lymph nodes. The surgeon believes the margins are good but we will have to wait until the final biopsy is in this coming week. The tumor was coming off the salivary glad as we had determined from the scans that were taken. The best news of all is that Dr. Bacon was able to save the ear canal. Dr. Bacon wanted to do more tests yesterday which is why Hershey went into surgery much later than we had expected.
Our sweet boy is still a little out of it this morning but is able to get up and walk outside on his own, wagging his tail the entire time. The anesthesia has caused him to not be hungry. We will give him a couple of days to allow his body to stabilize and then he should be eating again. The surgery was a big success as far as the massive tumor is concerned. Our next course of action is chemotherapy to stop or slow down the tumors that had already spread to his lungs. Hershey was stabile and comfortable during the entire procedure.
All of your prayers were answered for this wonderful dog. He passed with flying colors. As I said in the original updates, he does not have a clue that he is sick. He is just as happy as can be.
We realize that Hershey's future is up in the air for a lot of people. The fact that he has fought to be here now and to do so well with his surgery is very positive. We would love to see this amazing dog go to a very special home once we have him stabile. He will be doing chemotherapy and taking a holistic protocol but he can still go to a home in a couple of weeks. Don't let cancer prevent you from adopting this wonderful dog. He deserves just as much love and a great home as a healthy dog. We will pick up all of his medical bills. All we care about is his quality of Life and the amount of love that can be showered on him until his time comes. if you are interested, please drop us a note or fill out his Adoption Application. I would never trade the time Bubbles and I had together. She was amazing and loved everyone she met. Hershey is the same way. He is a happy go lucky boy that wants every second to count.
