HERSHEY

I am happy to finally have good news.  Hershey has been up and down all week.   He is finally better and is improving more each day.   When Hershey came in, he had a high fever and was very lethargic and would not eat.   For the next 4 days, he did not improve. He was given the Neupogen which took about 4 days for him to make more white blood cells.   When he came in he was limping but we could not figure out what was causing the pain.  It was localized, his foot was getting cold and he had a very faint pulse in the leg.   After extensive test, it was determined he had thrown a clot in his leg.   His medication was changed and adjusted so he did not form any new clots.   He was given lots of physical therapy on the leg to keep the blood flow moving and hopefully break up the clot.  I am happy to report his leg is now back to normal and is warm to the touch.  His fever is back to normal and his pain level has come almost all the way down.

While we were doing all of the tests to determine exactly what was causing his condition, we opted to do another scan of this lungs.   The last scan showed that the tumors had doubled in quantity and size.  I am happy to report that after one full treatment of chemotherapy, Hershey's tumors have miraculously been reduced by 75%.  Some of the tumors are completely gone and the largest one is down to a small tumor now.   The chemo is working for our dear boy and his breathing has improved significantly.     Once he is well, he will have another dose of chemo at a much reduced rate so he will not have the same side-effects he had this time.   Although the chemo knocked our sweet boy for a loop, it also put an incredible dent in the cancer that was in his lungs.   The Oncologists were so impressed with the results that each one thought for sure it had to be a scan from another dog.   It was Hershey alright and he is showing us all that he wants to be here.    We have also put his two scans on his web page so you can see the progress from June 18 to July 11.   Everyone can now do their version of a Happy Dance.

Hershey's bills are quite significant after being in ICU for a week.    Please, donate whatever you can so we can continue with all the care Hershey requires during his medical treatments.   Thanks for being part of his Journey to survive and live a wonderful Life surrounded by people that love and adore him.
