Sweet Hoss is hanging in there. Our dear boy is still at the University of Missouri Vet. Hospital. He is very slowly improving and gaining some of his strength back. The muscle / nerve biopsy test results have not come back. All of the other tests that were done have come back negative. Based on the negative results, we still believe we are dealing with a reaction to the Immiticide and the high dose of prednisone that was given to counteract the reaction he had. Basically, it is a chain reaction of events that put his body into shock.
It is going to take a long time to get the muscle mass back that Hoss lost. Some of the muscle mass on the head will never return to normal because of the prednisone he was given. Right now, we are working daily on building up his strength so he can get back to walking and doing some form of exercise. Hoss is eating normally and his bloodwork has dramatically improved. His calcium levels are now all normal.
Hoss is one lucky boy for lots of reasons. The main reason is because our on-site Angel, Dr. Kim Selting has taken Hoss under her wing and been taking him home with her at night and on the week-ends. Hoss loves all of the attention, gets to be around her incredible kids and get out of the hospital. This also gives Dr. Selting time to watch Hoss's progress and to identify any areas that need more work or an area that needs to be addressed. One thing is for sure, no stone is not being turned over with this sweet boy's medical care.
Once all of the results are in and we have a definitive diagnosis, Hoss can then go back to his loving Family where he will be closely monitored and exercised so he can build back his lost muscle and strength. Thanks for caring and sharing his story of survival.
