LYONS, GA......We were contacted about the sweetest little puppy that was picked up by Animal Control as a stray in Lyons, GA.  Everyone was begging us to help him.  The holidays are terrible on animals because the shelters clean house and put down the bulk of the animals they have.  We couldn’t let that happen to this sweet boy so we opted to give him a chance and take him in.  His name was Dan when we got him and we have renamed him HUEY. Dan seemed like too grown up a name for such a sad little pup and Huey seemed to fit his sweet disposition.    He is 6 months old with a terrible case of Demodex and is so loaded with parasites that his abdomen is terribly distended.  You can’t tell by looking at him but he is very underweight.  He had to immediately be put on fluids and medicine to stabilize him and to get his infections under control.  His bloodwork has begun to stabilize but he still does not want to eat very much and has lost more weight because of it.  He is not as critical as he was when we got him but he is still a very sick little guy.  It takes time when little ones are this sick.  You can’t just flip a switch and they are better.  Every medicine you give them causes a different problem.  You just have to stay on top of each problem to make sure you are going in the right direction.  Right now, we are feeling good about dear Huey.  He didn’t even want to get up at first but is now walking around a little.  We are hoping soon to see the puppy in him come out.  He is going to be a beautiful dog once the Demodex is gone.  Right now he is as sweet as can be and wants nothing more than for someone to love on him.

HUEY is finally feeling better but his skin is a mess to put it mildly.  We have sent out several skin samples to get a better handle on what we are dealing with other than Demodex.  His skin is oily that he is like a slick piglet.  His swelling has gone down dramatically since we have gotten rid of the bulk of his parasites.  The infections on his skin have improved but are still draining.  He has a lot of fungus growth which is why the infections are still there.  We have added another medicine for the fungus and that seems to be helping.  The lab results will help us fine tune his medical protocol to get the best possible outcome.  When puppies get this bad it takes a lot of trial and error to come up with the right protocol.  We think he is closer to seven months old than six and we also think he has some beagle in him.  We will not know for sure until his hair grows back and that will be a while.

Adorable Huey is doing wonderful.  We are now beginning to see what kind of dog he is going to become.  He still has a few more weeks on his treatment but is outside and playing everyday with all of the other dogs loving life.  He will be going to his new home when the treatment is done.  We still think he is a Plott Hound Mix.  One thing for sure is that he is adorable and sweet.

HUEY in his new HOME loving life.
