DECATUR, GA......Sweet INGO is part of a criminal abuse case.  She is a 5 year old pure breed German Shepherd.  She was picked up as a stray in Dekalb County and taken to the shelter there.  She is emaciated and has a leg that is broken in several places.  The wonderful girl has a microchip that traces her back to Premier Canine Training in Georgia which is under criminal charges for animal abuse.  We think she was dropped off in the Dekalb area after being injured at Premier Canine or she was dropped off and then hit by a car.  We will never know what really happened to this poor girl, except she was terribly neglected.  Her leg was beyond infected when we got her.  Since she is such a large dog we have been trying to get her well so we could possibly save her leg.  The problem is that she has so many parasites in her system we have not been able to get her stable enough to do the surgery.  She has been on constant fluids and medicine to keep her hydrated and get rid of the infection before we open her up. Her blood has to be stable before we can do any surgery on her. She has improved enough over the week-end, the surgeons believe they can do surgery today.  We will not know if they can save the leg until after they have gone in to see exactly how much bone is left to put a plate on.  If there is not enough good bone then we will have no choice but to amputate the leg.  INGO has gained some weight but not nearly as much as we would have liked.  That should improve as we rid her body of the parasites.  She is a beautiful sweet girl that we all love and adore.  She does not have a mean bone in her body.  We can’t wait until she is finally over this ordeal and can run and play with all of the other dogs.

INGO is doing great since she finally got well enough to remove her leg.  She has gained some weight and her blood levels are almost normal now.  She was miserable because her leg hurt and  had been infected for so long before we got her.  From the minute we removed her leg, her spirits completely changed.  It is like she finally breathed a sigh of relief and realized we were here to help her.  We wanted to remove her leg sooner but couldn't because she was so sick and removing the leg would have jeopardized her life.  The minute she woke up from surgery, she got up and began walking as a tripod.  She is a happy girl and is so happy that she is hard to get a good picture of her because she is always moving.  We love this special girl and are so glad the worst is over for her.  INGO gets along with everyone and will make a wonderful member of a family.

Ingo is doing incredible.  Still as sweet as can be.  Now that she is feeling better, she is doing great as a tripod.
