Adorable Juliet is being spoiled rotten by her Surgeon and Vet Techs. For several days, she has not wanted to have any part of standing up and walking. We are not sure if she was still in pain or she perceived walking was going to be painful. We think her fear has been more mental than anything else. The best news we received today was that our little bundle of joy took some steps on her own and also went to the bathroom outside. The bathroom part is beyond a Miracle. She has held her bladder for so long that going to the bathroom voluntarily is something she has not embraced. We are over-joyed with the progress she has made. Her surgery was very complicated, and the results were not guaranteed. She couldn't live the way she was so we had to do something short of amputating her legs.
Juliet has a long way to go before her legs have healed. She has to have daily bandage changes to make sure her wounds are healing, and she is not developing an infection. The Surgeon also likes to see the legs each day without the bandages so they can be passively massaged and gently moved. We are feeling very positive about the outcome. Once her legs have healed, she will have extensive Rehab to restore her muscle loss. The reward to walking is long, but the result will be worth it.
Juliet is a sweet, timid girl that was not loved the way she should have been. She was terrified of everyone when she first arrived. The Vets and Staff at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Matthews, NC are amazing. All of our dogs that go there come under their spell quickly and start loving Life. The timid ones come out of their shell, and the scared ones learn to trust. I can't say enough about this amazing team. I love working with them and know when one of my pups goes in; they are going to be spoiled rotten from the minute they arrive. Sweet Juliet had a Spa day and got her hair trimmed all while they were changing her bandages yesterday. Every animal should be treated this way. Unconditional LOVE all the way. Thanks for caring and making her Journey to Walk, possible.
