Adorable Lamp Chop is scheduled for surgery this coming Tuesday. We first had to locate a device that would allow the fluid to be slowly drained off and would also control the pressure on the brain. Next we had to find one that was small enough for her since she is a tiny puppy. I am happy to report that we found both in the device by Codman. The device is a Codman Hakin Programmable Valve. It is a very complicated device that has to be programmed by the Codman Representative, not a surgeon. The representative will also be in surgery to make sure the device is inserted correctly. We are making sure all of the elements of this complicated surgery are in alignment before we proceed. As of now, everything is coming into place.
The Valve we ordered will have to stay in place once it is inserted. I have enclosed a link below for anyone that wants to read about the device and exactly what it does. It is amazing such a small device can do so much. Right now, this device is what is going to give Lamb Chop her only chance at ever walking again. She cannot function the way she is with all of the fluid on her brain. Lamp Chops situation is not one where the fluid is going down. Hers is one where it is increasing. When the Spinal Tap was done, it decreased the amount of fluid she had. The Doctors and Vet. Techs all noted that she seemed to have improved slightly just by removing that small amount of fluid. We are hoping and praying the procedure goes well, and our little Angel comes out of this walking.
The Device is very expensive. The last quote we got, with a discount was close to $4000. That is just the apparatus alone. The surgery is going to be that much and more considering she will be in ICU for close to a week. We realize this is a lot of money. Every procedure we do is costly. Lamb Chop deserves the best chance we can offer her so she can live a normal Life. If this surgery is going to give her the ability to walk again, then that is what we are going to do. We never let money dictate the care our animals are receiving. If the money isn't there, I guarantee the funds to make sure each animal gets EXACTLY what they need; not part of what they need. Life has no guarantees. All we can do is our best and hope it all turns out. One thing is for sure, each of our abused animals gets all the love, medical, and rehab they will need to live in our Society in a loving home free of pain and suffering. We do our best to turn their lives around so they can be a happy DOG that gets to live out their Lifespan.
We have been getting a lot of notes from people that do not want to donate to an animal that was not abused or that the surgery is not a sure thing that she will ever walk again. If being abandoned by the side of the road without the ability to walk isn't, then I don't know what is. The only thing we do know is that Lamb Chop will have a terrible Life without this surgery. Saving animals from pain and suffering is what we do. Don't look at Lamb Chop as a cute adorable puppy. She is an animal that will suffer and die without this chance. It would be one thing if the surgeons came back and said nothing could be done. That is not the case here. Please, Help Us, Help Her by DONATING.
Please, take the time to watch Lamb Chop's video on her main web page to see her fighting so hard to stand up and walk.
