I am happy to report that adorable Lamb Chop is improving a little bit each day. It is going to be a long Journey for her but one that we are committed to. When we first did her shunt surgery, we were so hopeful she would begin to walk within a couple of weeks. Weeks later turned into months, and she is walking but not as steady on her feet as we had hoped. Dr. King, her Neurologist, has done another shunt adjustment which allows more fluid to leave the brain and drain into her abdomen. When we say more fluid, we are talking drops, not large amounts. If we take off too much too soon, she could become paralyzed and have total neurological impairment that would be irreversible. We are taking baby-steps with our little Angel and are happy and joyful with the results we have seen so far.
Lamb Chop has Physical Therapy almost daily. She also is in a special Quad-Cart that we had made for her. She runs all over the place in the cart and is also learning how to go straight and to turn voluntarily in it. We are also working on housebreaking with her, and is learning to go outside. Her Journey is going to be a long one filled with cheers of delight every time she does something we thing is remarkable. Over the next few years, she will still require adjustments to her shunt. Her shunt will remain in her brain forever. We never open up an animal surgically unless we know there is a Life-Threatening problem because of the risk of infection. So far, Lamb Chop has tolerated all of her adjustments, and her risk of infection is far behind us.
We did finally get her DNA results back, and it is going to surprise everyone by the results. DNA tests always make us laugh a lot and cause us to look at our dogs in a totally different way after getting them. Our sweet girl is a Maltese Mix. We are not sure what she is mixed with, but it has to be a much bigger dog that has very big ears. Maltese never even came into my train of thought for this adorable pup, but Maltese it is. She still looks like a baby Lamb to us.
I have posted an adorable video of Lamb Chop drinking water. I can remember when she could not even hold her head up for a second, and we had to syringe water into her mouth. She can now hold it without any problems. Her head bobs up and down so quickly that it looks like we have the video on fast mode. Enjoy the video and all the pics of our sweet girl. She has made a lot of progress and will continue to do so.
We are still looking for that special home for her. If you think your heart and home is the perfect place for our little Angel, please drop me a note, and we can discuss it. Thanks for caring and being part of her Journey to Survive and Thrive.
Have a very blessed Holiday Season.
