CHESTER, SC.....Linus is a 7 month old PIT BULL Mix that was picked up as a stray with terrible burns across the top of his back. The shelter in Chester is full of healthy dogs so there was no way they could take care of an injured dog like Linus.  His days were numbered and because of the pain and suffering he was going through, he had to be taken to a vet immediately.  As full as we are, we offered to get him the medical care that he so desperately needed.  Every week, we get calls about animals that have been tortured and burned.  It is a terrible injury that causes extreme pain, just like it would for a human.  I don’t think there has ever been a time when I have ever seen so many animals being burned in this country. To inflict that kind of pain on an animal is criminal.  Only on the rare circumstances have we been able to find the people that do this.  Linus has been on pain management and antibiotics to keep him pain free while we remove the dead tissue that is peeling off.  The injuries have to be kept dry and clean all through the day so fresh tissue can form.  It is a long process but a necessary one to keep him from getting a staph infection. Since he has so much exposed raw skin he is very vulnerable for all sorts of infections.  We are hopeful that Linus will get most of his fur back.  The only times when that does not happen is when the animal has been caught on fire and the burn went deeper into the tissue and damaged more layers.  One thing is for sure, this is one sweet dog.  He is a wiggly little one that wants to play now that he is out of pain.  He will make a wonderful member of the family for anyone with other dogs and kids.  He is young and loves to run and play.

LINUS is doing wonderful.  As you can tell from the picture, his back is healing beautifully.  We have gotten rid of the infection he had and now the tissue is granulating and filling in.  It will be several more months before we will know how much of his fur will grow back.  He is such a sweetheart, we don't care if it ever comes back.  As long as he is out of pain and on the mend and happy, that is all we are concerned with.  This little wonder of a dog will make a great companion for anyone that has children.  He loves to run around and play all day long.  It is great to finally see him so happy.
