DECATUR, GA.....Sweet Malina is a six week old lab/pit mix baby that was brought to Animal Control by her owner. They said she had been attacked by another dog and dropped her off. That was it. She had obviously been attacked about two weeks prior to this and had not been given any medical care. Her jaw was broken and parts of it were falling out. She had the worst infection in her jaw and now all through her body. She smelled like she should not even be alive. She was alive and was screaming in pain. Because of her emaciated state from not being able to eat and the degree of pain she was in, we were contacted immediately. We decided to take her in and either treat her or humanely put her to sleep in the arms of loving people once she was medically comfortable. We could not believe how bad she was once we got her. It was so sad to see this adorable pup in the pain she had been in and was still alive. We did not think she was going to make it through the night which is why we are just now posting for her. We got her comfortable so she could sleep and proceeded to give her round the clock medical care. We were not prepared for the fighting spirit this little girl showed us once we got her comfortable. She amazed us. At that point we knew we were going to do everything in our power to to save her. If she was going to fight for her life, then we were going to fight with her and that is what has happened. Melina’s jaw had been crushed and needed surgery to repair it and to clean up the infection. Puppies are very resilient at this age. Even though part of her jaw was missing, a lot of the bone would reform itself to something she could use later on. She did not have her adult teeth and that will be the next operation she would have once she gets them. She is hanging in there and has a long way to go but has come so far. If you could have seen the look in this little baby’s eyes from when she came in to how she is now, you would jump up and down and cheer and then have a good cry.
Look how much better sweet Malina looks. She is finally getting some energy and beginning to act like a little puppy. We have already operated on her jaw and will have to operate again once her adult teeth come in. She is sweet little pup that can now let the good part of being a cute puppy begin.
