Animal Abuse and Neglect, is it ever going to end. It has been happening for thousands of years. The only difference between then and now is the age of computers and the internet. We now see the abuse daily. I have been doing Animal Abuse cases for over ten years, and I have not seen it slow down one bit. What I have seen reduced are the number of dog fighting cases. We seem to be making a dent in that kind of abuse. What seems to be growing are the number of Animal Abuse and Neglect cases by individuals. People are taking out all of their anger on innocent animals, or they are turning a blind eye to the pain and suffering their personal pets are enduring. The other side of the picture I also witness daily is the generosity of Mankind. Awareness of hostile people is also giving courage to compassionate people to come forward and offer assistance. I am humbled daily by the human Spirit of Mankind. We have far more compassionate, loving people than we do Evil. The biggest difference is that when Evil strikes, it shakes us all to the core of our existence. We understand love and compassion but can never wrap our heads around how anyone could torture and neglect an innocent animal. I deal with these emotions daily. I choose to focus on the positive and surround each animal I take in with Love, Compassion, and Honor. They each get the best possible care, ALWAYS. Even if I know their time will be cut short because their injuries are too grave, they are given the best care for them to feel love and be a DOG. Before they cross over the Rainbow Bridge, they get to relax finally and know someone else is in charge that LOVES them. They are finally in the loving arms of people that will not allow them to suffer any longer. If there is nothing we can do, we can at least let them die with Dignity. When an animal has medical options, that will enable them to live longer and enjoy Life without suffering, we do whatever it takes. We know they won't live forever, but we also know they deserve the same chance a healthier dog would get to enjoy what Life they do have left.
We were contacted by Cumberland County Animal Control in North Carolina about a Mom and her three, three-year-old pups that were in terrible shape. They each had terrible mange, and the Mom was around eight years old with a large mass coming from her neck. The Mom which I named Marigold could barely walk and would not live much longer if she did not get to a Critical Care facility immediately. The Shelter assured me they would get the pups better and find a Rescue to take them. I had Marigold taken to Carolina Veterinary Specialists to get her stable and then she was transferred to CVRC in Charleston. Marigold is part of an Animal Abuse case that we are not allowed to discuss at this time, due to an on-going investigation.
When I first looked at the pictures, I was shocked this sweet dog was even alive. She had been starved, her skin was inflamed and infected, the massive tumor was infected, and she was missing part of her foot that was wide open. She could barely stand when she arrived. What she could do was pull herself up just long enough to give you the most heartfelt kisses and love you have ever felt from an animal. When she was examined, she would melt into your arms. This incredible dog showed unbelievable love and compassion for the people helping her. Everyone was shocked how an animal in this much pain could be so loving. Everyone jumped into action to get all the tests they needed all the while being as gentle as possible to not cause her further suffering. While we are waiting for the test results to come back, we are getting Marigold stable and comfortable. Her tumor is the least of our worries at this time. Our primary focus is on getting her stable and comfortable. Please, keep Marigold in your prayers. She is the sweetest dog that deserves her chance at getting better and knowing unconditional LOVE. No amount of pain and suffering has taken away her loving Spirit. Marigold will be in ICU for as long as it takes to get her stable. Please, DONATE toward her extensive medical bills.
