Miko is proving all the Specialists wrong and is slowly improving. The biggest issue he has is that his heart has been severely damaged. We cannot tell if it is from genetics or the condition he was in when he was found. His heart is now the heart of a much older dog. If it is genetics, then there is nothing we can do and his Life-Span will be very short. If it is from malnutrition and the severe infection he has had, we are hoping we can reverse a lot of the damage that has been done. Only time will tell if he has a chance at fighting this. We still have to get him through the worst case of Demodex and Infection we have ever seen in a puppy, and that is saying a lot since we have a ton of cases like this.
The best news of all is that sweet Miko feels well enough for the first time to get up and walk around. We finally have his skin where it is not oozing and has started to dry out. The baths and antibiotics are helping him tremendously. The other great news is that one of his Vet Techs has offered to take him home each day and bring him back when she goes back to work. He is still considered in the hospital since he requires extensive medications and treatments to get better. We decided that if Miko's Life was going to be cut short, he needed to know the comforts of Home. He is a puppy, and we Do Not want him to die in the Hospital. He is still getting 24-hour care, and the ER facility is five minutes away if he should have an emergency.
I am constantly accused of being too optimistic with the animals we take in. That is true and is the way I will remain. I think animals pick up our energy and fight harder when they know, they have someone fighting with them. I may not know how long Miko will live, but I do know, he is going to get the best possible Medical Care and love any animal could ever hope for. I NEVER, EVER deny Medical Care because the outcome may not be a long Life. Whatever time sweet Miko has left will be all the Life he will ever get. I am going to make sure he feels so much unconditional Love that he will beat all of the odds and live a lot longer than expected. He deserves all that we have, and he is going to get it.
Miko's ICU bills are extremely high. Please, DONATE whatever you can to help us keep up the amazing round the clock care he is receiving. Miko is a fighter and is determined to get well. Thanks for caring and making her Journey to HEAL possible.
