GREENVILLE, SC........MOGGIE & MOLLIE are eight week old Pit Bull puppies that were picked up as strays.  They were taken to Greenville County Animal control.  These adorable pups have such a horrible case of Demodex that their entire body is one big infection.  Their immune systems are so compromised that they cannot fight off anything.  If the infections in their eyes went any longer, they would have lost their eyesight.  Right now we are able to treat the infections and hopefully restore all of their vision.  The pups were in such bad shape that they either had to have a rescue step up for them or they were going to be euthanized.  We got them to our vet as soon as they would release them.  We have done extensive bloodwork and kidney tests to make sure their kidneys can take the treatments that are required to get them over the demodex.  The bloodwork has indicated slight anemia which we are hoping is from all of the parasites.  I am always amazed how someone could sit back and allow little puppies to get this sick.  It doesn’t happen overnight.  It seems like their entire life they must have been malnourished and mistreated for them to be this bad.  We think they are pit pups but do not really know because they are so disfigured from the Demodex.  They really look more like Pit mixed with some Boxer.  Whatever they are, they are cute and adorable to us.  They will be with us for several months while they get well and learn how to be wonderful Canine Good Citizens.
