Marion, SC.....Sweet Mojo was hit by a car when he got away from his owner. He is a one year old Chihuahua / Jack Russell Mix. He has severe injuries to his rear left leg. The pictures are too graphic to show without serious warning. The owner could not afford his medical care so he was signed over to the rescue in the area. He was taken to their vet on Friday where we believed he was being taken care of. Monday we decided something needed to be done for this dog so he could have a fighting chance. We sent someone to pick his up and were horrified with what we saw. He had the worst infection we have ever experienced on an animal and needed his leg removed immediately. His entire body was becoming septic and he was still in terrible pain. We are not sure what was done but it was not nearly enough for this dog to even survive one more day. When Mojo arrived at our vet late yesterday evening she was horrified with what she saw. She immediately took him into emergency surgery to either save his life or to humanely euthanize him. She worked all through the night and into the early hours to save this sweet dog. He is finally resting comfortably and now has a fighting chance to survive. He is on a morphine drip & antibiotics and is finally stable. His leg was removed during surgery last night. As he begins to heal, he will need several more surgeries to do skin graphs on the areas where the skin was completely gone. This is one lucky dog to be alive today. If he had stayed where he was, he would not have survived another day. Mojo is not out of the woods but we feel the worst is over for him. He is getting constant medical care to make sure he remains comfortable and stable.
We feel the worst is over for Mojo. He is finally comfortable and he is not on the morphine anymore. We feel like we have the infection under control since we removed the major source of it and now we are dealing with the infection he had in his system. He is a sweet dog that will make someone a great companion once he has healed.
Mojo is becoming the sweet little dog we always knew he was going to be. His infection I gone and his incision is healing nicely. He gets along great as a tripod and is feeling better each day we have him.
