Latest Updates

Sweet Mozart is an adorable ten-month-old Dachshund / Chihuahua  Mix that has been abused and neglected since she was a baby.   Mozart's foster family contacted us with a very long story about a pup that was born in her home from a dog her rescue had saved that was pregnant.  Three puppies were born all healthy and happy, and all three were adopted at 12 weeks old.   Mozart was returned from his family eight days later saying his medical costs were too much for them.   This pup went to the Family a perfect little pup and was returned with a broken jaw.   I asked the foster why on Earth did they not file charges against this family for Animal Cruelty.   The response was that the vet said they could not prove it.   I am still shocked by this response.   Mozart is now ten months old and has had two major surgeries on his lower jaw.   The first one was done by a vet that should have never done this kind of surgery, and it did not work.   Mozart then had another surgery that cost him all of his teeth on the side that was once broken.   We were contacted when there was nothing more they could afford to do for this adorable little pup.  He now had what appeared to be a mass in the place where his original jaw was broken.    I read all of the e-mails and looked at the saddest picture of a puppy that had endured unbelievable pain and suffering and now was facing a horrible future.    I agreed to take sweet Mozart and do whatever was necessary to give this puppy back his Life.

We got our Surgeons and Oncologists involved to make sure no stone was left unturned.   We did not want Mozart to endure any more surgery until we knew exactly what needed to be done to give Mozart the best possible outcome.    The first thing we discovered was that he was very sensitive to any opiates that would sedate him for surgery.  His heartbeat and blood pressure dropped way too low in a very short period.   We do not know why that is for such young pup but have him scheduled for a thorough cardiac  work-up on Wednesday to make sure he does not have any issues we are missing.  We found something he could be given so we could first get a biopsy to send off of the mass he has in his mouth.   The mass came back benign.  Mozart does not have Cancer.   The surgeon thinks the mass was formed when the bone was destroyed from all of the surgeries and scar tissue.    Mozart  will have to have the lower have of his jaw removed and reconstruction done so he can eat soft food.   We have done this before, and dogs learn to adapt to this and live normal lives.  Chewing is done on the side that still has teeth.    We feel like we can right the wrong that has been done on this adorable little pup that just wants to run and play and be a normal puppy.    Mozart has the sweetest personality.  He gets nervous when you get near his face because of all that has happened to him, but we feel this will go away once we have removed the pain that is causing his shyness.   Just over the last week, his sweet personality has begun to come out, and all he wants is to curl up in your arms and sleep.  Mozart is going to make a wonderful Family pet.  He cannot be placed in a home with very young children because of his background.
