Beautiful Nemo has certainly kept us on our toes this week-end. He was doing extremely well and then suddenly his fever spiked. We had just gotten him off fluids and IV antibiotics and were transitioning him over to oral medication when out of the blue, his fever jumped to 104.2. He was immediately put back on fluids. The cultures we had been waiting on finally came back. He has two strains of E-Coli and Enterococcus bacteria growing in his body near the wound site. The E-Coli is sensitive to the antibiotic he was on but the Enterococcus needed to be on a different antibiotic to get the best results. At the same time Nemo's fever spiked he began to cough a lot more. We did more chest x-rays and discovered the pneumonia had improved in one of his lungs but had now moved into his other lung. We believe that is why his fever spiked. His fever is pretty normal but not as stable as we would like for it to be. The strange thing is that right before he took a turn for the worse, I had been talking to his doctor and she was going on about how incredible he was doing. He was laying next to her chair while she was doing work and was the happiest boy. It was 5 minutes later they called to let me know what had just happened. His burst of energy was all he had for the day and then the fever got the best of him. He is slowly getting better but is still not feeling great. The good news is that he is only regurgitating about every other day now and not nearly as much as before. The other great news is that his wound bed is healing beautifully as you can see from the picture above. The tie down bandage has pulled the wound in enough that we think we can close it in a couple of days. Please, keep Nemo in your prayers. He is not as stable as we would like for him to be right now.
