Adorable Niko is making wonderful progress since we did his surgery. We anticipated his progress to be very slow and similar to Lambchops. The fact is, he has progressed much further and quicker than Lambchop. Each animal's situation is similar but very different in the amount of fluid that has to be drained and the pressure that is required. Based on how well Niko has progressed each day, he will not have a shunt adjustment for some time. Lambchop has had several adjustments and is scheduled to have another one in a couple of weeks after an ultrasound has been done to determine the amount of fluid that is remaining.
We are not going to put the cart before the horse, but we are feeling, good about Niko's ability to walk. Niko has never walked since he was born. Walking is going to be a new experience for him. If you watch his videos, you can see how active and alert he is compared to how he was. We feel it is just a matter of time before he takes off running. To build up his leg muscles so he can hold himself up, he is being transferred to a Rehab facility in Savannah, GA today. He will get Physical Therapy several times a day until he can stand up and walk on his own. Once he begins walking, his therapy will be walking and running. We are overjoyed with how well he is doing as we are with Lambchop. Lambchop will also be moved to the same facility for rehab.
We are way behind in donations for adorable Niko, and his bills are mounting with his continued Care. We think a lot of people haven't donated because they were not sure if Niko was going to make it. Well, he made it and is thriving. Please, Please, Please, DONATE toward his extensive medical care, so we do not have to go into our own pockets to make sure he has every possible chance of walking again. Thanks for caring and being part of his amazing Journey to Walk.
