PETUNIA

Sweet Petunia is feeling so much better that we did not have to sedate her today to  debride her wounds.   Her drainage has slowed down a lot compared to how she was when we first rescued her.   Dr. Niciu and her staff very gingerly removed all the dead tissue and cleaned the areas that are still draining.   We are doing bloodwork every other day to make sure her albumin level is close to the normal range.  It is off some but not enough for us to be concerned.  When your skin drains this much, your protein levels get totally out of balance.   We are closely monitoring all of this to make sure we take action before a problem occurs.   We are now changing to every other day to clean her wounds and also for the bloodwork.  By the end of the week, we are optimistic her skin will be much drier.

Her cultures came back and she is growing three bugs, none of which are staph or MRSA infections.  The worst is an e-coli infection.   Her antibiotics have been adjusted to take care of all three infections.   Her pain level is down significantly today and her pain meds have been adjusted.   Before long she will not need any pain meds.   The worst pain Petunia had was weeks before we ever got her.    After a while your body adjusts to the pain.   She is used to the pain but we want her to be comfortable and playful all the time.

Little Petunia looks just like a frog on the surgical table with her slick little body.  If she ever grows into those big feet of hers, she is going to be a frog or a toad but a Moose.    Petunia is the sweetest little Angel that loves everyone.   Every day her wonderful personality shines even brighter.   Thanks for caring about our pretty little Petunia.   She is now beginning to smell as pretty as a flower.
