Adorable Petunia is doing well. I am happy to say that the last 4 days her skin has finally stopped oozing from the infections she has. It looks like we have finally gotten her on the best antibiotics to clear up all three infections. She had to be sedated yesterday to remove the scabs that had formed since her last procedure. From this point forward, we are hopeful the worst of the debriding will be behind her.
Petunia is as sweet as can be. Through all of this, she has been nothing but sweet and loving. Based on how her wounds look and how deep some of the areas are, I am beginning to think she was burned with something caustic that was either in a powder or granulated form such as lye. The areas that are raw are really deep which is what is taking so long for the spots to heal. There are a lot of layers of skin that have to granulate in before they will even begin to close. The best news is that they are no long draining. Her blood work has finally begun to stabilize and is normal. When you have wounds that are draining as much as she has, your body tries to compensate and it throws it out of balance. She is in balance, the antibiotics are working so we are going in the right direction. She will eventually get fur back on her body it is just going to take about 6 months before it has all filled in.
Thanks for caring about this wonderful innocent little girl. Whatever happened to her has been very traumatic. Based on how she is feeling, she seems to be putting the past behind and moving forward being showered with unconditional love and care.
