Sweet, adorable Piper appears to be a pure breed Scottie that was picked up as a stray and brought to the Greenville County Shelter. We think she was a puppy mill dog that was put out when she went into distress. She was emaciated, pregnant and covered with fleas. She went into labor and delivered one baby that died and then did not deliver anymore. By late that afternoon, she started to run a high fever and appeared to be in distress. We were contacted and had to immediately have her taken to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic or she would not survive. The vets determined that her puppies had died and she was becoming septic. We had the choice to either humanely euthanize her or we had to agree to emergency surgery to save her life. We could have avoided the emergency room if we had been contacted sooner. It was now going on 6:00 and the only place she could go was the Emergency Facility. We had the surgery done and literally saved her life. She would not have lived for two more hours in the condition she was in. We could not save any of the puppies but we did save this wonderful little dog. We are still treating her for a terrible bladder infection that is slowly improving. She is a wonderful save and will make someone a great member of the family.
Look how much better Piper is feeling. She is doing incredible and has been placed in a wonderful home.
