CUMBERLAND CO., NC......Sweet Pixie was picked up by a Good-Samaritan after being hit by a car. She was taken to the vet until it was determined she had extensive injuries that would require major surgery and an Orthopedic Specialist. She was then turned over to Animal Control. We were contacted and knew her time on this Earth was going to be very short if we did not step up. Animals with multiple fractures that are in extreme pain are PTS to save them from enduring more pain and suffering.
Pixie is a tiny 10 pound Papillon Mix that we believe is between three and four years old. Her pelvis is fractured in several places and is luxated. Her femur head is broken on one of her legs along with bone fragments that are completely missing. Our little girl is Humpty-Dumpty that has to be put back together again. Poor little Pixie was in terrible pain when we received her. She is stable and is being prepared for surgery. Her leg will have to be plated, and her pelvis will be repaired in areas that cage rest will not correct on it's own. Because of her tiny size, none of her injuries are going to be easy to fix which is why we only use the best Orthopedic Surgeons on all of our cases. The other issue we are dealing with is her head injury. Our little girl suffered a concussion and had a large cut on her head. Dr. Bergman, our Neurologist, has done a thorough evaluation and has cleared her for surgery. He feels her head injury will resolve itself without any further intervention. Pixie will be in surgery for most of the afternoon. We will do another update tomorrow when she is fully awake after surgery.
Pixie's procedures are very expensive; please Donate toward her medical so we can get her on the mend. She is going to need extensive rehab and physical therapy for the next two months to give her the best possible chance. Once she has fully recovered, she will go to a new Family. We will be taking applications now for anyone interested in welcoming this adorable little pup into your home. Pixie is the sweetest pup and has not given us any reason to think she will not be sweet when she fully recovers. Thanks for caring and being part of her Journey to Survive and Thrive.
