COLUMBIA, SC......Say "Hello" to incredible Rose. Our sweet girl is a five-year-old Lab Mix that was abandoned on the side of the road after being hit by car. We were contacted to see if we could save her since no one was stepping up for her because of her injuries. As you can see from the picture, her rear ankle is pointing in the wrong direction which made it very difficult to walk. On top of that, her hip was also damaged from the impact.
What we got when we first received Rose was the sweetest dog that had apparently been in pain for quite some time. Her injury was not a new injury, but one she had suffered with for quite some time. We do not believe she was hit where she was found but that she was abandoned there. Rose is the sweetest lab and loves everyone. She allowed the Doctor's and Vet. Techs to do anything they needed to do for her evaluation without even a whimper. Once the evaluation was done, we brought in an Orthopedic Surgeon to determine if the leg could be saved. We do everything possible before we ever remove a leg on an animal. It was determined the break was an old injury that had scar tissue all around that had to be removed. A special plate had to be ordered just for Rose that would fit her ankle. She would no longer be able to bend her ankle, but she would have the full function of the rest of her leg and could walk again. At the same time, we also had to do an FHO (Femur Head Ostectomy) on the opposite leg.
I am happy to report that after waiting two weeks for the swelling to go down and the plate to come in, the Surgeons were able to put Rose's Ankle back in alignment. You can see from the picture that her leg after surgery now looks like a normal leg. While Rose is recovering, she can only go out with assistance until the ankle has fused together. In about two weeks, the surgeons feel she can then start to use the ankle. Rose's surgery and rehab are quite extensive and expensive, please, donate toward her medical bills so we can save more dogs like Rose.
Rose is an incredibly sweet dog that deserves a family to love her for the rest of her Life. She is a typical happy go lucky Lab that wants to be by your side and lay on the floor next to you. Her Life is complete, if she has those things. I hate what happened to Rose but am so glad she came into our Lives to experience unconditional Love. If you are looking for your next member of the Family, look no further. Rose will walk right in, and you will think she has been with you FOREVER.
