I am happy to report that sweet Rose is getting her cast off today and can now go to her wonderful home in Baltimore. Her new Guardian has waited patiently for this day to come to welcome her into her home. Rose will be on restricted exercise for the next two months. Her first month will be sling walking only, and the following month will be leash walking. If all goes well during this time, she will be free to be a dog that can run around and play.
Rose has had extensive Physical Therapy over the past month. It was only in the last week that she had actively begun to use her rear leg. She was so used to holding her leg up since it did not function that mentally she wanted to do that still. We had to break through a lot of barriers for her to finally realize if she put her leg down, it would function normally. This week she finally realized that she could use her leg. We will make arrangements for her to continue Physical Therapy for the first month in her new home until we feel she is well.
Until an animal is completely healed, we take responsibility for all of their medical care if it is a pre-existing condition for as long as it takes. We are the only Rescue that I am aware of that does that. The New Adopter is responsible for basic medical needs ONLY, until the animal is healed. We do this for the Life of the animal. If you don't like us, then you probably shouldn't adopt from us, because you are stuck with us for the Life of the animal. The other thing most people don't realize is that we take all of our animals back no matter how long it has been. If an adoption doesn't work out for any reason, the animal comes back to us. NO EXCEPTION. We bring the animal back to be thoroughly evaluated, physically and mentally before they are placed in a new loving home. We don't see this as a failure for a new Family but as a Guardian being responsible for letting us know when something is not working out.
Thanks for caring about Rose and being part of her Journey to WALK again.
