SPARROW

Sweet Sparrow has taken a turn for the worse and has been transferred to a  Critical Care Veterinary Hospital in Charleston, SC.  His body has become anemic from loss due to seeping from the wounds, vasculitis and systemic inflammation.    He is getting a transfusion to compensate for the loss.  His bloodwork is also showing signs of sepsis.  The good news is that his bone marrow is keeping up so far with the bacterial infection from his wounds.    The next 48 hours are going to be critical for him.  We are doing everything we can to regulate the fluid loss and infection.   He is now in a facility where he has a team of Critical Care Specialists to monitor his every second.  His heartbeat has finally come down to a high normal.    His temperature has become stable and is now up in the normal range where it was extremely low before.   This sweet puppy reminds me in so many ways of Freckles.  The symptoms he is having are almost identical to the first 48 hours we had Freckles.    He is being treated by the same Specialists that saved Freckles.

Sparrow is resting comfortably now while he is getting the transfusion and appears to be tolerating it well.   He has two more hours before it is complete.   If his bloodwork does not improve after this transfusion, he will get another one until it does.    When an animal has this many injuries all over his body, you have to have a team of Specialist that can deal with so many things not working at once.   When you fix one part, it throws off something else.   It is a balancing act that can only be managed with a Critical Care Specialist.    We have one of the best overseeing all of Sparrow's care.   If anyone can pull him through this, it is Dr. Kristin Welch.   She has saved so many of our animals and is the one person I have the utmost respect for and confidence in when an animal is in this bad shape.   Every detail of his care is going through her.    If Sparrow wants to be here and is up for the fight of his Life, then we are going to make sure he has everything medically possible to live.     There is no stone that has not been turned over in his case.    If Dr. Welch says he needs it, then he gets it.

Please, keep our little Sparrow in your prayers.  He is in ICU and will be there for as long as it takes until he comes out of this.  We need all the donations we can get for this sweet puppy.  If you can't donate, then please spread the word to everyone you know.   Thanks for caring and helping us save this innocent pups Life.
