SPARROW is still in ICU in critical condition. Unfortunately, the wounds will get worse before they get better. The natural process of tissue dying is not pretty but is necessary. Once the body has declared itself, we then know which areas have got to be totally removed so it will not poison Sparrow's body any further. We have so many things going on during this process that the Specialists are spending every second working on resolving anything bad that comes up. We were prepared to give him another transfusion last night because his anemia had gotten bad again but decided to wait until today. He had so much fluid loss that had to be replenished that it was determined the blood was too diluted for us to get a true blood count. Once the tests are done this morning, we feel like we will get a better assessment of his blood levels.
Our sweet puppy is emotionally feeling better and has begun to move around. We have changed his pain meds so he is more alert but still comfortable. His body is Septic. We have him on a heavy arsenal of antibiotics for the infections he has. What he is going through is normal for a dog that has this many injuries from dog bites. Infections are all throughout his body. The best news is that he is in a facility that has a Critical Care Specialist that can handle every bad thing that comes up. I say this over and over but it really is a balancing act to keep the body functioning while you are adjusting so many things at once. There are only a few Specialists that know how to do this and Sparrow has one of the bests.
Sparrows injuries are very similar to Freckles and Gunnar. He will have to have skin grafts and skin flaps done to put him back together again because so much of his skin is necrotic. The next week is critical for our little wounded boy. Every day has more challenges that need to be taken on. He will remain in ICU for probably two more weeks. The costs to cover this kind of care is beyond anything you can imagine. This is what he needs and this is what he is going to get until he is one day able to walk out of this hospital a happy healthy pup. Please, DONATE whatever you can to help us with these unbelievable bills. Every day is thousands of dollars that have to be paid. Once I take on a case, the animal gets whatever they need for as long as they need it. No exceptions, ever. Whatever donations don't cover, I personally pay. It just means a lot of other animals will not be saved if I have to do that very often.
Thanks for caring and doing your all to help this wonderful puppy survive this horrible ordeal. No animal should ever have to endure this kind of suffering and pain. The fact that mankind inflicted this on him, makes it that much worse. Now we have to fix the wrong that was done. This is how you heal a broken Body, Spirit and Soul. You never give up or give in. You make sure the innocent ones that have been tortured feel your unconditional love and care so they will FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT to live another day and get through this.
