SPARROW is finally on the mend. He is still not out of the woods but his prognosis is much better. He has had the best 24 hour care than you could ever imagine. Every second he has been closely monitored and any issues that come up have been addressed immediately. It is because of this quick action that he has been able to improve as quickly as he has. He still has a lot of problems that have to be addressed immediately but the great news is that we are finally beginning to see the results we wanted. His body is getting strong enough to fight the infection and begin to regulate itself. The wound care has been constant and that has enabled his body to not have as much dead tissue to deal with. He is still draining a lot which is why we are putting a medical vacuum on his leg wounds to pull out as much infection as possible. The vacuum pulls the infection out as it is being produced. We bought a Medical Vacuum machine when we first got Freckles because it was something he needed to get well. We have since used it a lot on the animals that have wounds that are constantly draining. It creates a sterile environment for the wound to heal in.
As you can see from the picture, Sparrow is feeling so much better. He is literally beginning to wake up from a very bad NIGHTMARE. He is looking at all of the Vet. Techs as if to say "What the ??? happened to me!" He has been in a horrible state where his body was shutting down because he had so many injuries. He could not even raise his head or move he was so sick.
The swelling in his face and neck has improved but is still there. One of the bite wounds damaged one of the major arteries in the neck. This is preventing the neck from draining properly. If the problem does not resolve itself, we will have to get him to a Specialist that can repair the artery. Based on how much the swelling has gone down, we feel like it is resolving. Only time will tell.
Thanks for caring about this wonderful puppy. He is as sweet as can be and will make a wonderful Family Pet. We are now taking Applications for his adoption in about four weeks. To say those words is a Miracle. We are feeling very good about his prognosis which is why we are letting everyone know now they can apply.
Sparrow will be in ICU for another week and then should be well enough to be moved to a different part of the hospital. He will still get 24 hour care but will not have to have someone with him every second of the day. I am so glad we stepped up for this amazing puppy. The kind of care he has needed to survive is so far removed from what a regular Rescue can handle that he probably would not be here today if he had gone some place else. The good news is that he was with us and moved to a Critical Care Facility when his body became septic and began to shut down. Thanks for making it possible to save sweet Sparrow and all the others like him. You are their Guardian Angels and we so appreciate what you do to help us save lives.
