I am so happy to report that we were able to reduce the swelling and edema in the neck area of Spencer that was closing off his air supply. Once the swelling went down, we removed his trachea tube and used gauze to keep his head elevated so his mouth would not close and he would not roll over and obstruct his airway again. The Critical Care Physicians slowly brought him out of his medical induced coma as soon as they felt he could breathe on his own. The picture with his eyes wide open is when he first woke up. He has been breathing on his own since then. He is still in ICU and will remain there with someone watching him 24 hours a day to make sure his airway remains open. The Lymphoma is in a very difficult place to get a tissue sample. We opted to get tissue samples from other organs to see if they are abnormal. Those results will determine if we have to open up his chest to get a sample to biopsy. We have already started him on chemotherapy for his Lymphoma but need to make sure we know exactly what he has before we continue giving him chemo. The results should be in by the end of the week. It is great to finally meet this wonderful dog without him sleeping. He is the sweetest boy that loves everyone. He is a little confused because of all he has had to go through over the last 4 days but he is settling into the fact he is surrounded by people that love and care about him getting well. We can now move forward with all the other tests we couldn't do because of his crisis emergency. We are just at the beginning of treating Spencer for his Lymphoma. We have a lot more tests that have to be done and then we will know which is the best course of action once all of the results are in. Spencer is lucky to have one of the best Oncologist around in charge of his treatment. Because he needed round the clock care with someone with him every second of the day, his bills are through the roof. Please, help us with his very large medical bills so we can go forward with his Chemotherapy.
