CONCORD, NC....We were contacted by a lot of people about 7 puppies that were picked up and brought to the Cabarrus County Animal Control facility in Concord, NC. The man that called to have them picked up said he found them. We think he is a breeder and discarded them since they are all very sick. We got requests from everyone and responded that we were just too full to help these pups. We wished we could and offered money instead to save their lives and to get them medical care. Days went by and still no one was stepping up to give them the medical care they needed. Rescues wanted them but could not afford to take on the responsibility. The e-mails went on and on. I finally realized they were not going to be helped the way they needed and were in real danger of being put down. It didn't seem to matter what I offered. It wasn't enough to save them. Their only hope was for me to take them in. I told the other rescue that I would take the 5 worst ones and they could take the larger parents which seemed to be in pretty good shape. The five pups I got were all in horrible condition and had been for quite some time. It looks like there were two sets of parents. I ended up with 3 puppies and their parents. The parents are so sick they looked just like the puppies. They look like Wire-Haired Terrier mixes. The Mom and Dad are each around 18 months old and the puppies are around 6 months old. They range in size from 7-12 pounds. We have named them the Simpsons. Marge and Homer are the parents and the pups are Bart, Lisa and Milhouse. All of the animals are emaciated and loaded with parasites. They each have terrible Demodex and infected skin. Needless to say, they are a very hot mess. They are all being treated at the hospital in Columbia, SC where they will remain until they are well enough to be adopted or can go to approved rescues to be adopted. They are each adorable and sweet and will make wonderful Family pets. We believe the man that called to pick them up is a back-yard breeder and have asked the authorities to go out and investigate and charge him with animal cruelty if that is the case. The animals have obviously been kept in horrendous conditions without any medical care.
