Beautiful Tripp is slowly coming around and gaining his weight back. The first week he had to get used to having people around all the time loving on him and taking all of his medicine. He has now decided Life just might be worth living for. He is a totally different dog. It is like a Lightbulb came on in his eyes. He has a spark that we have never seen. He loves playing with the other dogs when he is allowed since he is on restricted exercise from his heart condition. Tripp is Happy, and it shows in his walk and everything he does. He even got a little bit too excited one day and started having eyes for one of the females in the yard. We put a stop to that immediately and decided he must have been a Lady's man in his day.
Unfortunately, the growth we have been monitoring in his groin area has gotten much larger and will have to be addressed this week. Tripp was too weak and run-down to have surgery when we first got him. His bloodwork has improved greatly, and the Surgeons feel he is strong enough for surgery to neuter him and remove the growth at the same time. Once Tripp has recovered from his procedure, and his biopsy has come back, we will then proceed with the Heartworm Protocol his Cardiologist will be administering. We have taken in so many dogs that have had complications from Heartworm Treatment that we only allow Specialists to do the protocol while in the hospital. The problem with Strays is that you never know what their history is. You only know how they are today. We never even give the first dose of Heartworm preventative until we have done a HW Test and have done an Echo to determine what damage has been done to the heart and if Heartworms are present. The best way to treat Heartworms is to prevent them from happening in the first place. The Heartworm Society has great information to read below on how to prevent and to treat for Heartworms.

Tripp ears are always going to be an issue because they were cropped way too short and are prone to infections. The main issue is that it is almost impossible to keep debris and water out of the ears since they do not have any area to protect the delicate areas. We have him on special medication that is making a big difference. He will have to remain on the medication as long as he has continued ear infections which we suspect will be for along time given his ear cropping.
Wonderful Tripp still has a lot of Medical Care to go before he is well. His biopsy will tell us a lot about his prognosis. He has an eye appointment this week for his eyes. He definitely has impaired vision which we are not sure why. We are feeling good about this amazingly sweet dog and are doing our part to give him the best Life ever. Please, Donate toward his Medical Bills and his Care so we can help more dogs like Tripp that have been Abandoned with no Hope in Sight.
