GIRARD,GA……We were contacted about a starved Boston Terrier Mix that was spotted by a fellow rescuer in need of help. She was seen outside a trailer home on the porch looking inside. The person inside said she was not their dog and that she had been seen in the area for 4 years going from home to home begging for food. Tulip is literally the walking dead. It is impossible for me to wrap my head around the fact that people in this community have literally watched this sweet pup go from door to door and not take her in and get her food. For 4 years someone had to have been feeding her at some point but to still be begging is almost impossible to imagine. Hard to believe or not, that is exactly what has happened to this wonderful little dog. This neighborhood is full of dogs and strays. None of them look like Tulip but for some reason this pup has endured this hardship for most of her Life.
We have had Tulip for several weeks. She has been in the hospital and had to be transferred to a Speciality 24 hour facility because her condition was not improving. When I tell you that Tulip is sweet and loving, that is an under statement. She is like a delicate little flower that just wants a little bit of water and sunshine to barely hang on. In return, she will very carefully lean against you judging all along the way to make sure it is okay to do this. When she crawls into your lap you literally have to hold back the tears because she does it in such a way to not disturb or upset anything or anyone. She is like a feather blowing in the breeze.
This little dog has really had me upset since the day we got her. The fact she is still here is hard to believe. We have run a battery of tests and are still waiting for some of the final results to come in. Tulip has been anemic since the day we got her. She is right on the edge for a transfusion. She has so many other things going on that we will not do a transfusion unless she drops any lower. The reason why she was taken to a Critical Care Facility is because she was not improving and had become very lethargic. All of her organs have been stressed to the point of breaking. We have done ultrasounds to see if she has something in her stomach that could be causing this and are doing a ton of tests to see if she has ingested something toxic. She will have to remain in ICU until she is stable and we feel like her body has stated to work properly. A Lifetime of neglect has taken a tremendous toll on this delicate little Angel.
