Poor Tulip has really had a hard time of it. She has been up and down so many times that we are not really sure what the next day will bring. I am glad she is in a 24 hour facility so her down time can be documented and taken care of. The aspirate that we took from a small bump on her chest has come back that she has a Dermal Lymphoma. All of her bloodwork had indicated to us that she had more than just being emaciated going on in her system. Her spleen is terribly enlarged and her liver panel was abnormal. It was improving but not as much as we would have liked. The surgeons went in and removed the growth and have sent it off for a biopsy to tell us exactly what kind of cancer she has. They also did a liver biopsy to determine what is going on with her liver. Those results should be back by the end of this week.
While Tulip was sedated we had the surgeon go over her entire body to see if there was anything else we could fine that could be causing these multiple issues. What they discovered was that our sweet girl has a coxofemoral luxation in her rear left leg. That explains the weakness she has been having and the muscle atrophy in that leg. Tulip is so emaciated that it is really hard to determine atrophy and emaciation. An x-ray was done to confirm the diagnosis. Once Tulip is a lot healthier an FHO (femoral head ostectomy) will have to be performed. Right now, this wonderful little dog has her hands full dealing with all she has going on.
I am not sure why but we have only received a small amount of donations to go toward her extensive medical bills. If you haven't donated, please consider helping us with this incredible little dog. If you can't donate at this time, please forward to all your friends so we can get the much needed funds to cover her large medical bills. It seems like lately, almost every dog we take in has needed to stay in ICU for extended periods of time. We do not determine that. Their medical requirements determine the need and we make sure each animal has exactly what they need to survive the horrible abuse each has endured.
Please, keep our fragile little girl in your prayers. She is definitely a very fragile flower that needs us now more than ever.
